What is an IOU tracker?

An IOU is short for "I owe you" — a small promise between two people. It can be money, a borrowed item, a favor, a task or a chore.

An IOU tracker is the place where you keep these promises visible to both sides, so nothing gets forgotten and nobody has to dig through chat history to remember who said what.

Track money, items, favors and chores

Most apps in this space only track money. IOweU is built for the full picture of everyday promises.

💸

Money owed

Drinks, dinner, groceries, rent shares, taxi rides.

📦

Borrowed items

Books, chargers, tools, games, camping gear.

🙌

Favors

Picking someone up, watching a pet, helping with a move.

🧹

Tasks and chores

Cleaning the kitchen, walking the dog, doing the laundry.

🎁

Optional rewards

Attach an incentive to any task or chore.

🔁

Either side creates

You do not have to wait for the other person to log it.

Create IOUs from either side

You do not have to wait for the other person to log anything. Whether you owe something or something is owed to you, you can create the IOU yourself.

The other side gets notified and can accept, reject, withdraw, propose a change, or — once accepted — reassign it. When the IOU is fulfilled, either side can settle it or waive it.

How IOweU works

  • Create — add an IOU for money, an item, a favor or a task. Optionally attach a photo or a GIF.
  • Share — send it through the app or any messaging app. The other person is notified instantly.
  • Resolve — accept, reject, propose changes, reassign, settle or waive. Push notifications keep both sides in sync.

More than an expense splitter

If you were looking for an expense splitter alternative, IOweU covers shared expenses but is not limited to money. The same flow works for items, favors and chores — so you only need one app instead of a debt tracker, a chore app and a notes app.

Frequently asked questions

Is IOweU free?

Yes. The app is 100% free with no in-app purchases. It is ad-supported, made in Switzerland, and your data is hosted in the EU under GDPR.

Can I track things other than money?

Yes. IOweU tracks money, borrowed items, favors, tasks and chores. For tasks and chores you can also attach an optional reward.

Can either person create the IOU?

Yes. Whether you owe someone or someone owes you, you can create the IOU yourself. You do not need to wait for the other person to log it first.

How is IOweU different from an expense splitter?

Most expense splitters only track shared money. IOweU tracks every kind of IOU — money, items, favors, tasks and chores — and lets either side create the IOU.

Does IOweU work for families?

Yes. Parents can assign chores with optional rewards, and kids can create chores and propose their own reward. On completion, the reward appears as a new IOU automatically.
